In order to carry his emerging choreographic works, Antoine Arbeit created Ex novo in autumn 2018 after his first choreographic research at the Royaumont Abbey, during the Prototype V (2017-18) and Dialogues IV (2019) training sessions. With Ex novo, he wants to raise public awareness of contemporary art by disseminating live performance objects, both in unconventional places and on stage, and actively participating in the cultural life of all territories.

Antoine Arbeit approaches the act of choreographic creation above all as an act of writing. The prism of writing, as the spatial and temporal organization of the body, allows an idea to take shape in order to elaborate a creative and intuitive object. In this writing, the body becomes a conscious, detailed, sensitive medium that evolves within a living structure, constantly evolving. This notion of permanent evolution is a common thread in the company’s creations.

Thus, in System (2021), the writing is structured around a succession of progressive shifts. The result is a dramatic line supported by the idea of a space-time always in motion, in transition. This writing of transitions reflects a general attention to the link, the transformation, and is in opposition to a writing of ruptures.
Finally, the company’s shows put to work a contemporary aesthetic that is generally abstract, the abstraction of the gesture being considered as the aesthetic most open to interpretations.
